Boxpilot was founded in the summer of 1998. Still in university, the founder's first corporate meeting focused on the question: "What should we do as a company?" From this humble beginning the company took shape – an outsourced outbound marketing agency focused on the business-to-business high technology market. From 1998 to 2002, the company changed names four times as it honed in on its focus. Initially KP Merit, then Graymatter Direct, and then MessageSweep. The name Boxpilot was ultimately decided on because it so aptly captured the essence: "we pilot your voicemail to the right mailbox."
In reflecting on the frustrating results from a particular outbound campaign near the company's start, one of the founders asked: "We're calling people but no one is answering their phone... and we're leaving the same voicemail over and over... why can't we automate this?" While computer autodialers were in the market and able to deliver voice messages to the consumer market at the time, no solution existed that handled the intricacies of the business environment – the need to navigate through receptionists, dial-by-name, extensions, assistants... to get to the right mailbox.
And so the founders conceived and pioneered a solution that did not yet exist in the market – a service they termed "Guided Voicemail™." The idea of a call center navigating a phone call to get to the right person's voice mailbox and then dispatching a message had not been offered in the past, and the founders swiftly set out to build the solution and market. As they say, the rest is history.

Boasting many of the world's leading B2B organizations as clients, Boxpilot continues to serve a fast growing list of companies as it expands and adapts to new technologies and marketing opportunities.
